Kenneth Ziffren is a partner with Ziffren, Brittenham LLP, a firm he helped found in 1979. Previously, he was a partner with Ziffren & Ziffren (1967-1978).
Mr. Ziffren served as a neutral mediator in resolving the WGA-AMPTP strike (1988) and lead counsel in his firm’s representation of independent television production companies and guilds in FINSYN matters (1990-1993) and FCC proceedings (2001-2004). He negotiated the Emmy Awards Show for the TV Academy with the Networks (2003, 2011) and the NFL in network contracts (1993, 1998). He also has negotiated for DirecTv with studios on pay-per-view agreements, for Starz! with studios on pay movie channel, and for private equity firms in purchasing MGM (2005).
A frequent lecturer and writer on entertainment law, Mr. Ziffren is an adjunct professor at UCLA School of Law, teaching seminar courses in network television and motion picture distribution.
Mr. Ziffren is a member of the board of directors of City National Corporation, Chairman of the UCLA School of Law Board of Advisors, and chair of the UCLA Law School Campaign Cabinet. He is also a board member of Public Counsel and of Skirball Cultural Center.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University and a juris doctor degree from UCLA Law School – Order of the Coif. Mr. Ziffren was editor-in-chief of the UCLA Law Review (1964-65), and served as a clerk to Chief Justice Earl Warren (1965-1966).
