As executive vice president of City National Wealth Management, Richard Gershen leads the bank’s efforts to be the primary source of wealth advice and investment solutions for its clients.

Mr. Gershen, who joined the bank in 2009, has more than 30 years of experience in asset management and financial services. He is responsible for City National’s asset management, brokerage, personal trust and retirement businesses, as well as its majority-owned asset management affiliates. He leads a team of more than 450 colleagues.

Prior to joining City National, Mr. Gershen was executive managing director at Evergreen Investments, a subsidiary of Wachovia Corporation. He was a member of Evergreen’s executive committee and chair of the division’s risk management committee. During his nine-year tenure at Evergreen, he held leadership roles in business strategy, acquisitions, risk management, product management and high-net-worth customized portfolio management.

Before joining Evergreen, Mr. Gershen served for five years as chief operating officer of Banc America Capital Management in Charlotte, N.C. From 1987 to 1995, he held a variety of positions, including fixed income portfolio manager and chief financial officer, at Shields Asset Management in New York. He earlier served as controller at MEG Asset Management in New York from 1981 to 1987, and before that was an auditor at Ernst & Young from 1977 to 1980.

Mr. Gershen earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Hofstra University in New York. He is a certified public accountant.
