Richard Shier is executive vice president and director of City National Bank’s Banking & Investment Services. He also serves as a member of the bank’s Executive Committee.

Mr. Shier directs a team of specialists that develops, delivers and manages deposit, loan, mortgage, online, card, international, private banking, wealth management and other products and services for all City National clients and business lines. He also oversees most of the corporation’s operations, including Deposit, Payment, International, Brokerage and Trust Services; Central Operations, Operations Risk Management, Internal Communications, “Know Your Client” and anti-money laundering support processes as well as various other bank-wide functions.

His leadership teams have a successful track record introducing highly competitive products and services generating revenue growth and building new revenue streams while focusing on improving the client experience. Their continual improvements to productivity save the bank many millions of dollars in ongoing costs.

Before joining City National in 1998, Mr. Shier led senior management teams at Home Savings and First Interstate Bank. Earlier during his 30-year career, he worked at payments revenue consulting firms and technology service companies.

Mr. Shier is on the board of The Clearing House Payments Company, the leading private-sector payment system infrastructure for clearing and settling U.S. dollar payments. He also serves on the board and is a former board chairman of the Western Payments Alliance, one of the nation’s largest regional payments associations.
