As president of City National Bank, Chris Warmuth is responsible for City National’s corporate banking, commercial banking, and private client services as well as the entertainment, real estate and branch banking activities of California’s Premier Private and Business Bank® –a financial institution with more than $20 billion in total assets and offices in Southern California, the San Francisco Bay Area, Nevada and New York City.
Mr. Warmuth serves on the bank’s four-member Strategy and Planning Committee, as well as its Executive Committee. He also is a member of the boards of directors of both the bank and its parent company, City National Corporation.
Mr. Warmuth joined City National in June 2002 as executive vice president and chief credit officer, overseeing credit policy, administration and special assets. He was named president in May 2005.
During his 30-year banking career, Mr. Warmuth has held a variety of positions in business and real estate lending, corporate banking and consumer credit as well as risk management. Before joining City National, he was chief credit officer of Sanwa Bank California, which later merged into Bank of the West. He served as head of Sanwa’s special assets division for four years and was a member of the company’s management committee. Previously, Mr. Warmuth was Southern California area manager for Bank of America’s real estate industries division, and before that, he was executive vice president of the real estate special assets group at Security Pacific Bank. He also was treasurer of The Christiana Companies, a publicly traded real estate development company in San Diego.
Mr. Warmuth earned a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Southern California.
Mr. Warmuth is a member of the board of trustees of the California Science Center in Los Angeles. He also is a member of the Risk Management Association and the Urban Land Institute. He earlier served as a founding member of the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate.
