Switch to City National Bank

Switching to and opening a City National Bank checking account has never been easier. Simply follow the steps outlined below and use our forms to assist in notifying your vendors and billers of your account change.

  • Open your new City National Bank checking account.
To find out more about the checking account options available to you, contact us or call (800) 773-7100.

  • Stop using your old account.
Let all of your checks clear. Use the Account Switch Worksheet PDF Word form to help identify the automatic payments and withdrawals you were making with your former checking account and to help you decide which payment methods work best for you going forward.

  • Move your direct deposits to your new account.
Once your checking account is opened, you will want to change any direct deposits to your new account. You will need to inform companies who make direct deposits on your behalf to credit your new account. (Helpful Hint)

Some companies allow you to make the change on-line at their website. You can also use the Electronic Deposit Change Request PDF Word form to notify these companies of the change. Complete and print one form for each company who deposits payments directly to your account and send it to the company making the deposit. (Note that some companies require that you complete their form. In that case, request, complete and return the company’s form.)

  • Move your automatic payments/withdrawals to your new account.
You will want to change any automatic payments that are being charged to your old account. You will need to notify the companies making those drafts of the change in accounts. (Helpful Hint)

Again, you may be able to make the change on-line at the company’s website or by telephone. You can also use the Automatic Payments/Withdrawal Change Request PDF Word form to notify these companies of the change. Complete and print one form for each company making an automatic payment/withdrawal and send it to the company. If the company requires that you complete their form, request, complete and return the company’s form.

  • Close your old account.
When all checks have cleared and your automatic credits, withdrawals and payments have been transferred to your new account at CNB, close your old account. You can send a written notice to close your old checking account using the Close Account Request PDF Word form. Destroy any unused checks, deposit slips, ATM and debit cards.

Remember, once your old account is closed, any checks or automatic debits may be returned unpaid by your former bank, which could negatively affect your credit. Your former bank may also refuse any direct deposits or other credits. (Helpful Hint)
