Planning Experience

City National attracts planning professionals with experience in taxation, accounting, and trust and estate law to our team. The financial planning experience with this team of City National colleagues is flexible, dynamic and ongoing. The key stages of the planning process are:

  1. Initial Planning Meeting
The client meets with a financial planning professional to discuss goals, values and the overall financial situation. The focus may be on one particular issue of concern to the client or on several key goals the client may have in mind.

  2. Preliminary Assessment and Presentation
This presentation recaps the client’s financial objectives and current challenges and offers possible solutions designed to achieve key goals.

  3. Scope of Planning Services
We present the scope of the client plan in writing. This outlines what the client can expect and what additional information is needed to develop a meaningful plan.

  4. Plan Design and Development
Through a series of meetings with the client and other key advisors, an estate and financial plan is developed. Strengths and weaknesses of alternatives are discussed, concepts are fine-tuned, and the client agrees to the final plan.

  5. Implementation Consultation
A critical aspect of the planning process is implementation of the plan. The financial planning professional assists the client to understand the steps that are required to put the plan into action. City National offers the breadth of resources and depth of capability necessary to assist with the coordination and implementation of the plan.

  6. Ongoing Monitoring and Review
The client and City National advisor meet on a regular basis to carefully monitor the plan, evaluate performance and review the current suitability of estate and financial strategies. We can also immediately consult with a client as life events unfold and plans need to be revised.
